Taiwan-Malaysia Overseas Science and Technology Innovation Center

Introduction

With the support of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), together with Universiti Malaya (UM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), jointly established the Taiwan–Malaysia Overseas Science Research and Technology Innovation Center. The Center’s main office is located at NYCU, with additional offices set up respectively at UM and UKM.

Given the longstanding close collaboration between NYCU, UM, and UKM, and under the NSTC’s active promotion of the New Southbound Policy, which encourages Taiwan’s academic institutions to enhance scholarly exchanges with target countries, we established the Taiwan–Malaysia Overseas Science Research and Technology Innovation Center with Malaysia’s top universities. Through this Center, we aim to actively promote academic exchange between Taiwan and New Southbound countries, strengthen engagement among outstanding young scholars internationally, and leverage our accumulated expertise in relevant fields to advance research, education, and training. In doing so, we seek to expand bilateral collaboration in research development, industrial connections, and practical applications, thereby further enhancing the academic capacity and international reputation of both sides.

Mission and Vision

The primary missions of the Taiwan–Malaysia Overseas Science Research and Technology Innovation Center are:

  1. To cultivate outstanding talents with a global perspective.
  2. To deepen bilateral academic exchanges between Taiwan and Malaysia.
  3. To encourage international collaboration in innovation, R&D, and entrepreneurship.
  4. To promote joint master’s and doctoral degree programs between Taiwan and Malaysia.

With the establishment of the Taiwan–Malaysia Overseas Science Research and Technology Innovation Center, we aim to serve as an academic bridge between Taiwan and Malaysia in related fields, and to create a platform for industry–academia collaboration as well as innovation and entrepreneurship. The Center will further strengthen bilateral cooperation between NYCU, UM, and UKM, facilitating mutual exchanges among students, faculty, researchers, and medical professionals in teaching, research, and healthcare. It will deepen Taiwan–Malaysia academic collaboration, promote the training and cultivation of international talents, and enhance the technological industries of both countries, thereby solidifying friendship and international relations.

Building on the experiences gained through this initiative, the project will also foster new substantial collaborations and innovative academic exchanges with other renowned universities or institutions in neighboring New Southbound countries.
